Commanding play from the beginning to end, Quincy College Granite came away with their first victory of the season with a 2-1 win in National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region 21 play. Quincy College is 1-1 on the 2018-2019 season.
Quincy peppered the Holyoke goalie in the early minutes as Freshman #4 Lorkens Exumat of Dorchester connected on his 2nd goal of the season by blasting in a corner kick to give the Granite the early lead. Quincy continued dominant play in the opponents end led by Exumat, # 11 Herby Milien of Dorchester, #9 Kenny Ofori of Hartford, CT, and #8 Alexssaander Lopes of Dorchester. Coach Idris Senyonjo lauded the strong defensive efforts of Goalie Nate Getman of Birmingham, AL, # 14 Gareth McAlinden of Plymouth, #2 Hamza Mohamednur of Cambridge, #3 Raphael Pena Garcia of Quincy, and # 16 Annas Ashraf of Dorchester who constantly kept the pressure out of the Quincy end.
Holyoke scored early in the 2nd half but Quincy College’s strong play kept the pressure on the visiting team’s defense. Quincy College Freshman forward #19 Jefferie Monteiro of Quincy headed in a corner kick for the winning goal with less than 5 minutes left in the game.
Led by the strong play of #10 Thiago Carvalho of Dorchester who directed the offense with #7 Zedrick Moreira of Quincy, # 17 Hugo Ramos of Quincy and #5 Younes Errifi of Dorchester, Quincy College Granite kept the play in the Holyoke end to seal the Granite its first win of the year.
Quincy College Granite Men’s Soccer travels to Springfield Technical Community College on Saturday, Sept. 22nd and will return to home field, Creedon Field, on Sept. 25th versus Bunker Hill Community College at 6 p.m.
