PLYMOUTH – Quincy College will host a series of meet-the-author events beginning with Casey Sherman in Plymouth on Oct. 22, followed by Rick Beyer in Quincy on Oct. 28.
In a book titled “The Finest Hours,” Sherman and co-author Michael Tougias describe how members of the Coast Guard rescued crew members from two tankers that broke in two off the coast of Cape Cod during a nor’easter in February of 1952.
Sherman will speak at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 22, at Quincy College’s Krovitz Library, 36 Cordage Park Circle, Plymouth.

A film version of “The Finest Hours” is set to be released in January. It stars Chris Pine and Casey Affleck and is directed by Craig Gillespie.

After spending nearly a decade conducting research and interviews with the surviving members of a secret military unit, Beyer co-authored “The Ghost Army of World War II: How One Top Secret Unit Deceived the Enemy with Inflatable Tanks, Sound Effects and Other Audacious Fakery.”
During the war, a troop of more than 1,000 men known as the Ghost Army protected American bases by using make-believe headquarters and convoys to fool the enemy.

He will speak from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 28, at the Thomas Crane Public Library, 40 Washington St., Quincy. His book was made into an award-winning documentary that premiered on PBS in 2013.

Both events are free and open to the public. Audience members will be able to ask questions.

Registration is encouraged. To register, visit plymouthauthornight.eventbrite.com for Sherman’s talk or quincyauthornight.eventbrite.com for Beyer’s talk.
