Quincy Medical Center Cancer Walk

The Quincy Medical Center (QMC) Cancer Walk (formerly
the Marie Curry Walk) is scheduled for Sunday, September 18, 2005.
Proceeds of the walk benefit the Marie A. Curry Fund, which helps
to provide free, high quality cancer programs and services at QMC
to women and men who are uninsured or have inadequate health insurance
coverage. Last year, Quincy College was represented by a small team
of faculty and staff who raised thousands of dollars for cancer services.
New for 2005, however, faculty, staff, students, and members of The
Gamma Beta Phi Honor and Service Society and Phi Theta Kappa Honor
Society will form “Team QC,” don matching Quincy College
t-shirts provided by event sponsors, and walk as a
group to raise funds that are used locally.
The four-mile, leisurely morning walk begins and ends at
Pageant Field in Merrymount
Park, Quincy, and follows an
ocean-lined route along Quincy
Shore Drive. The festivities
will culminate with a special
post-walk celebration including
lunch. You can contribute to
this wonderful cause as a walker
or by supporting “Team
QC” with a donation.
Sign-up and pledge sheets are
available through Joe Bradley,
Director of College and Community
Development in Old Temple Hall
102, or by calling 617-984-1778
or sending an e-mail to jbradley@quincycollege.edu.
The Marie A. Curry Fund was established by the Quincy
Medical Center Chairman of the Board Robert “Bob” Curry
in memory of his late wife
Marie Curry, who died of breast cancer in 1995. At that
time, the Fund provided free screening
and diagnostic mammography,
breast ultrasounds and breast biopsies to uninsured or
underinsured women on the South
Shore.
