The Liberal Arts and Sciences Department strives to make your academic experiences meaningful and enjoyable. The instructors give each student an opportunity to be an active participant with a definite sense of identity. Everyone matters at Quincy College! The instructors also enrich their courses with fresh content that is relevant to preparation for the job market and survival as a human being. Likewise, throughout the academic year, instructors provide additional opportunities for students to participate in different types of cultural activities that offer them entertainment and enhance their understanding of different cultures. I encourage you to experience as many of these activities as your schedule allows. In addition, I wish you the best academic year ever!

The mission of the Liberal Arts Program is to provide students with a breadth of program offerings that permit them to acquire a thorough, historical, and theoretical foundation in their chosen field of study. Liberal Arts students may focus their program in the following concentration areas: English, History/Government, Humanities, Mathematics, Natural Science, Mathematics/Science, Psychology, Sociology, Behavioral Science, or the Social Sciences.

The Dean and faculty of the Liberal Arts program are available for academic advising and academic help to students from any course. We all teach and are, therefore familiar with academic expectations within classrooms and try to help students learn to navigate the conventions of academic life as well as improve their skills in communicating with their professors.

All faculty have posted office hours and e-mail access by using the first letter of their first name and their last name @quincycollege.edu.

Susan Paris
Assistant Dean, Sciences

Science is at a critical juncture in the United States – technological advances are occurring every day and scientists are working to address a changing society and a need to remain competitive in a global age. Rapid advancements in science education will require many academic disciplines to work together, along with support from the public and private sectors to increase the number of students pursuing science majors, particularly women, underrepresented and first generation college students. As we become more integrated into a global economy that requires innovation, technological savvy and a spirit of entrepreneurship, an education that is grounded in math and science has become crucial, and the field can only be enriched by increasing the diversity of those involved.

I hope you will take advantage of our science courses and the wealth of experience our science instructors bring to the classroom. Whether you are fulfilling the college core or laying the groundwork for a career in the sciences or healthcare, their unique perspectives add a dimension to the subject matter that can bring it to life. In addition to dedicated full-time faculty, we have science instructors who are physicians and research scientists and health-care professionals teaching at Quincy College, and applying their real-life knowledge to the subjects they teach. So take a course or two and see for yourself how science affects us all!
