Course Description:
This course offers a review and extension of selected topics in algebra, analytic geometry, functions, exponentials and logarithmic functions, trigonometry and applications. It makes emphasis in the connections between equations and their graphs.
A TI- 83 or 84, and Microsoft Excel 2003 will be used to facilitate hands-on skills in graphing.
Students will have access to lectures, and will be asked to participate in class discussion, collaborative learning, and complete assignments and projects connected to the learning objectives throughout this online distance education course. This course is limited to 20 students.
Algebra is the fundamental tool-box for math applications, logical thinking, and advanced math. The purpose of this course is to build self-confidence in your Math skills, in your thinking skills, and in your capacity to solve problems. This can only be achieved by doing, practicing and being part of a group that will think on similar math problems and will communicate with the same language.
Prerequisites:
Number Systems: integers, rational and real numbers, Inequalities, Laws of Exponents, Operations with polynomials, Factoring Polynomials, Special factoring formulas, Rational Expressions ( fractions involving polynomials), Addition and Multiplication, Solving proportions, Negative and fractional exponents, nth roots. Linear equations, Quadratic equations and the coordinate plane.
