Student Support Specialist (Admin Assistant) Initial Posting 05/15/09

The Administrative Assistant Specialist in the office of Student Support Services will coordinate and facilitate the daily operations of the Nicastro Learning Center. The specialist will communicate the rules and procedures of the Nicastro Learning Center with students, faculty and staff. Primary duties included but are not limited to:

  • Accurately, promptly and courteously communicate the operational procedures with students, faculty and staff.

  • Initiate and/or respond to inquiries that facilitate meeting the Center’s goals.

  • Maintain thorough familiarity with College policies, procedures, regulations, and practices.

  • Assure compliance with routine processes and sign-in systems.

  • Assist students in scheduling tutoring sessions.

  • Assist the Executive Director in proctoring tests.

  • Answer the telephone and process mail daily.

  • File and photocopy documents as needed.

  • Order office supplies;

  • Use MS Office, web technologies, research methods and AS 400 to facilitate work of the center.

  • Maintain database of student use of tutoring services including number of students and subjects tutored.

  • Maintain an up-to-date tutor database.

  • Generate weekly payroll.

  • Assist the Executive Director in organizing and preparing the annual budget;

  • Assist the Executive Director with ordering and monitoring office and instructional supplies.

  • Assist the Executive Director with reporting student use statistics.

Receptionist – Fall 2009


The Receptionist is the first person to meet and greet our students, instructors and visitors.  The Receptionist is responsible for both reception activities and provides general office support with a variety of clerical and administrative activities such as: answering incoming calls on a multi-line telephone system, appropriately directing callers, providing top-notch customer service, greeting students and faculty, scheduling appointments, filing, preparing mailings, assisting with administrative projects, and other administrative and clerical duties as needed. 

As a member of the front-line staff it is critical that the Receptionist have the depth of knowledge necessary to handle student and faculty questions directly and effectively.  A major focus of this position is quality customer service.  The person in this position must be a team player with excellent customer service and helping skills, which includes, but is not limited to, a courteous phone manner, a welcoming presence for walk-in inquiries, and the ability to respond to questions or issues knowledgeably and in a supportive manner.  The Receptionist must have the ability to appropriately handle difficult customer issues with good judgment which includes knowing when to refer a situation to his/her supervisor.  Essential responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Professionally and accurately answers questions and/or appropriately refers callers and visitors;
  • Represents the College with a positive and professional presentation to all our customers and constituents including students, prospective students, visitors and faculty;
  • Professionally greets and directs visitors appropriately;
  • Provides callers with information such as company address, directions to the company location, company fax numbers, company website, and other related information;
  • Provides clear and accurate information;
  • Supports managers, faculty members and students as needed;

Educational Criteria: HS Diploma or equivalent required, Associate’s Degree preferred.

  • A minimum of one (1) year of experience in an office environment and in answering a multi-line telephone system is required.  Excellent telephone etiquette and communication skills and interpersonal communication skills required. Bilingual skills preferred. Experience in a college environment is preferred.  A sincere desire and willingness to serve a multicultural population is required;

The major responsibility of the position is classroom and clinical instruction of students in the Associate Degree Program in Nursing at the Quincy, Plymouth, or Fenway Campus.  Other responsibilities include student advising, curriculum development, assignment to Associate Degree Program in Nursing and College committees, and other duties as assigned by the Program Chair. Primary duties include but are not limited to:

  • Participate with other members of the teaching team in the planning, organizing, implementing, and evaluating nursing courses;

Computer Science Instructor – Fall 2009

All faculty are first members of the Quincy College faculty.  As such, it is to be understood that the faculty member assumes an obligation to comply with the philosophy and mission of Quincy College.  Under the direction of the Dean of Business and Public Service Programs, the faculty member will teach courses in Computer Science and related areas as assigned, and will maintain a proficient level of performance in the position, as well as carry out other position-related duties as assigned.  Duties which may be assigned to the faculty member are set forth in the Agreement between the Quincy Education Association and Quincy College.  Such duties include, but are not limited to, student advising, curriculum review and development, assignment to and participation on College committees, and other duties as assigned by the Dean.  Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Assume a leadership role in delineating and articulating Computer Science and Networking course  content in assigned courses;

  • Teach courses in Computer Science and related fields as directed by the Vice President for Academic Affairs and/or the Dean of Business and Public Service Programs;

  • College teaching experience preferred , experience in a community college setting highly desirable;

  • Understanding of and commitment to the community college mission;

  • Experience instructing students from a diverse background preferred;

  • Experience using technology in the classroom and/or for distance learning, and traditional/nontraditional methods of instruction, preferred;

  • Experience using multiple measures to assess student learning;

  • 5 years’ experience managing and configuring enterprise-wide LANs, WANs, WLANs, VPNs, etc.

  • Extensive application support experience with CISCO, Juniper, Visual Studio;

  • Knowledge and understanding of system flow charts, data processing concepts, and telecommunications principles;

Learning Specialist in English/SPED – Initial Posting 02/13/09

The learning specialist will assist students enrolled in career and technical majors to maximize their academic potential by providing individual and group tutoring.  The successful candidate will assist students in developing individual learning strategies. He/she will be proficient in English, developmental education, and/or special education.  The specialist will work with the peer and professional tutors in the Nicastro Learning Center and will report to the Executive Director of Student Support Services. A peer tutor helps students achieve their academic goals.  He/she has a positive attitude, gives encouragement, and helps with assignments.  Being a peer tutor means listening effectively.  Peer tutors must be committed to working with students from diverse socio-economic, cultural, ethnic, and linguistic backgrounds.  Tutors will work individually or in small groups with students who need extra support in academic coursework.

  There is an immediate need for peer tutors in Accounting, Mathematics, and Computer Science.  Tutors are also needed, per student requests, in English, ESL, Physics, Chemistry, Anatomy and Physiology, Biology, and Nursing.  Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
