WHAT DO YOU LOVE ABOUT QUINCY COLLEGE?
Quincy College is a special place to teach and learn.
We have a small student to teacher ratio that allows
me to adjust to the individual learning styles of my
students. The free tutoring that is offered at the
college is a wonderful help to students who might be
struggling with a subject. Remedial courses and ESL
classes help bring students up to the appropriate academic
level so they can succeed in college courses. Quincy
College has a made a commitment to educate students
in computers. Each student has a computer to use in
class. The courses that are taught can be directly
used in the workplace. Whether it is an application
program such as word processing, database management
or website design, each of the students leaves the
course with the knowledge and skills that will enable
them to get a job. My favorite thing about Quincy College
is the population of international students. About
13% of our students are from all over the world. I
love to walk down the corridors and hear the various
languages spoken. It is like taking a trip around the
world without leaving home.
WHAT IS YOUR PHILOSOPHY OF TEACHING?
I enjoy educating students about the intricacies of computers. The
computer industry is advancing so rapidly that unfortunately the hardware
and software the students train on today will be obsolete tomorrow.
My goal in teaching is to teach my students how to learn on their
own. I want them to finish a course with me and not be afraid to tackle
computers by themselves; not be afraid to pick up a manual and learn
a new application program or a new programming language on their own.
On the other hand, I can’t stand still either. I have to keep
learning too. The students I have five years from now will have grown
up with computers in their lives and be very technically savvy. I
constantly need to update my knowledge of computers so I can meet
the needs of the next generation of students.
