WHAT DO YOU LOVE ABOUT QUINCY COLLEGE?
There are many things I love about Quincy College. First, I enjoy
working with the dedicated faculty and staff who always put students
first. Second, I like the students who make up the classes. They are
varied in age and experiences as well diversity. This brings an exciting
dimension to the classes. As a teacher I learn from them and appreciate
our similarities and differences. Thirdly, the classes are small and
give us an opportunity to know our students by name as well as make
lasting connections that extend well after they graduate. Finally,
the opportunities available for the students are endless especially
with tutoring support and an open door policy of admittance. These
are the primary reasons why I love to teach at Quincy College.
WHAT IS YOUR PHILOSOPHY OF TEACHING?
My philosophy of teaching is student centered. I believe that all
students have the ability to succeed. All students
are individuals with unique talents and experiences.
In class, I strive to enhance
their unique qualities and actualize their full potential.
One of the ways this is achieved is by adapting my
teaching to the
varied individual learning styles of the students.
I strive to encompass many varied instructional strategies
to help students achieve the
outcomes of the courses I teach. I value active participation
through hands on activities, projects, presentations,
and role play. These
methods allow for multiple ways to assess their understandings
of the material presented.
In addition, as future teachers the students are encouraged to be
reflective educators always searching for ways to improve both teaching
and learning. The importance of concrete activities is constantly
being modeled within the classroom. I also adhere to a constructivist
approach and build on students’ prior experiences and help them
make connections to the material presented.
In conclusion, I firmly believe that students learn best in a comfortable
environment. Therefore, all questions in class are valued and students
are encouraged to participate freely. I also strive to empower the
students by giving them positive feedback. I want them to be creative
thinkers and take risks to try new ideas when they plan activities
for children. As future teachers it is important that they continue
to be lifelong learners.
