QUINCY COLLEGE CHANGED MY LIFE
As a native of Malawi, it was a priority of mine to come to the United States and reach my full potential both socially and academically. I felt suffocated by a society that frowned upon self-expression, and knew that it was time for me to spread my wings in a new place.
Upon the recommendation of family and friends in the Boston area, and through careful research of my own, I decided to enroll in Quincy College in 2004. Like most people in a new environment, I was shy at first and apprehensive about opening myself up too quickly. But I soon found Quincy College to be a welcoming and comfortable learning environment, one in which I could express ideas without judgment, and freely interact with people of all cultures and experiences.
The faculty and staff at Quincy College have also been very supportive and positive.
The intimate atmosphere fosters learning in ways a large school may lack. In
the Liberal Arts program, I have the opportunity to take a variety of courses
and witness the unfolding of new and exciting ideas every day. If it were not
for this program, I would never have fallen in love with Psychology. I found
that many of my experiences and passions - teaching young children, listening
and
helping friends with their problems - were a natural fit in this course of study.
After I earn my degree, I plan to become a child psychologist.
College can be everything you make it, and it is up to the student to not just
attend classes, but become a part of the community. Only then can you experience
its full potential. There is a lot more to higher education than homework and
exams – especially at Quincy College!
