Practical Nurse Program (PN) Application Process
PROGRAM PREREQUISITE
• Qualifying scores on the Nursing Exam:
Reading Comprehension (86), Sentence Skills (96), Arithmetic (75)
• Proof of high school graduation/GED completion required
NURSING EXAM (ACCUPLACER)
• $25 fee paid to Enrollment Services
· must be paid either in person or by mail prior to scheduling a testing date and time
· schedule in person at the Admissions/Advising Office or call: Quincy Campus Testing at (617) 984-1710; Plymouth Campus Testing at (508)747-0400
• Scores are only valid for one year
• You may take the exam up to 3 times per academic year (Sept – Aug)
· You must pay the fee each time you take the exam
• You must wait 30 days to retake the exam
• The highest score possible on the Nursing Exam is 120 in each of the three sections
• To review for the exam you can refer to a GED study guide, SAT study guide, CollegeBoard.com, or TestPrepReview.com
APPLICATION PROCESS
Applications are accepted beginning January 3rd for the part-time and full-time programs.
· Programs begin the following September.
• Acceptance is on a first-come first-served basis.
• The full-time program runs Mon-Fri from 7:00am-3:00pm and the part-time program runs three evenings a week from around 3pm-11pm.
LIBERAL ARTS COURSES
Equivalent courses are encouraged, but not required, to be completed prior to entrance:
• College Math, MAT100 or higher
• Growth and Development, PSY216
• General Psychology, PSY101
• Nutrition w/lab, BIO 106/BIO 116
• Microbiology w/ lab, BIO151/152
• Anatomy & Physiology I and II w/ labs BIO131/141 and BIO132/142
(must complete both courses)

• Anatomy and Physiology I with lab or Biology with lab
• Qualifying scores on the Nursing Exam (ACCUPLACER)

· ALL SCIENCE COURSES MUST HAVE BEEN TAKEN WITHIN THE LAST 5 YEARS (Fall 2007 or later)
· High school Chemistry, A&P, and/or Biology will not be considered unless you are applying while still in high school
· A grade of “C” or better is required in every course
· Proof of high school graduation is required for admission. All students must submit either a high school diploma or official high school transcript with their application
· Veteran students must submit a copy of their DD214 with their application
Admission into the program will be on a competitive basis – first ranked by the results of the Nursing Admission Exam.
APPLICATION PERIOD
Full-time program runs Monday thru Friday 7:00am – 3:00pm and begins in September (2yrs). Submit applications between January 3rd and May 15th

Part-time program runs three evenings/week 3:00pm – 10:00pm and begins in January (2 ½ yrs)
· The part-time program runs at both the Quincy campus and the Plymouth campus. Submit applications between April 15th and July 15th

CORE CURRICULUM
The core curriculum is required for all students seeking an Associate's Degree. We encourage all prospective nursing students to complete these courses PRIOR to entering the nursing program:
• College Level Math Course (must be MAT103 or higher)
• Anatomy and Physiology II w/ lab (within the last 5 years)
• English Composition I
• Microbiology w/ lab (within the last 5 years)
• English Composition II
• General Psychology
• Computer Science Course (within the last 7 years)
• History/Government Core Course**
*Prerequisite for Intro to Chemistry is MAT097
*Prerequisite for General Chemistry is MAT103
**The following courses will satisfy the history/government requirement: US History I, US History II, American Government, State & Local Government, Western Civ I or Western Civ II

7. Need to have a B- average in your practical nursing program
8. Valid Practical Nursing license

10. Veteran students must submit a copy of their DD214 with their application
11. Qualifying scores on the Allied Health Exam
Min. scores needed: Reading Comprehension (95), Sentence Skills (96), Arithmetic (75)
**ALL SCIENCES MUST HAVE BEEN TAKEN DURING FALL 2007 OR LATER AND EARNED A MINIMUM GRADE OF “C”**
APPLICATION PERIOD
Full-time program (10 months):

• Hours are about 7:00a – 3:00p, Monday – Friday
Part-time program (1 year):
Applications are received between April 15 and August 15
• Program starts every January
• Hours are about 3:00p – 10:00p, Three nights per week
ADMISSION TO THE APN PROGRAM WILL BE ON A COMPETITIVE BASIS, RANKED FIRSTLY BY THE RESULTS ON THE ALLIED HEALTH EXAM
